The work of Rogier Houwen (1992) can be defined as ‘magical realistic’. Whether it’s a landscape,
an abstraction, a portrait or a still life, his photographs represent a fantastical observation found
within ‘the real world’. When in the course of a magical experience, Houwen carefully captures
the intensity of that experience; he is a collector of observations that almost seem unreal but are
Paradoxes, surrealistic thoughts, optical illusions, dreams and questions about our environment are to be found in his photographs. Rogier Houwen’s work is an ode to the miraculous and versatile nature on our planet

Located in the beautiful centre of Amsterdam (the Jordaan) Kahmann Gallery embodies all that is photography. Founded in 2005, HUP Gallery was due to change its name to Kahmann Gallery in 2009. While the original concept was to focus purely on Dutch photographers, the scope has broadened over time to include equal volumes of work from international photographers. Kahmann Gallery will remain a specialist in the sale of unique fine art photography that has either made history or will most likely do so.
Kahmann Gallery presents a beautiful mix between vintage and contemporary photoworks. Besides a large vintage print collection (1930 – 1970) Kahmann Gallery represents the work of almost 30 national and international photographers.
The gallery initiates about six exhibitions a year in the Amsterdam gallery, cooperates with various international galleries and museums and participates in international art fairs. Kahmann Gallery acts as an art dealer and advisor for the acquisition of photography for company or corporate collections.
For residents of the Netherlands, it is possible to purchase works at Kahmann Gallery via the KunstKoop Regeling, provided by the Mondriaan Fund. For more information about this, please visit their website.
