Rob Bouwman (Groningen, 1981) lives and works in Haarlem. About his work he says: "I treat my panels with multiple layers of lacquer, which have to dry about a week each and then get sanded and polished. This process takes about a month, until the surface is so hard and smooth that it offers the paint no traction. The paints that I use - carefully selected for their color saturation and composition - behave very differently on such a slippery surface than on a conventional cloth or panel. The paint lays on the surface, it can go anywhere I push it: the colors are mixed, pushed into one another and pulled by each other. I strive for transitions that are extremely full of color and pass subtly into one another. It involves the widest possible range between one color and another."
